NEW DELHI: There was no curtailment or cancellation of metro train services during the recent protests in the national capital, and entry and exit were restricted in only 45 out of 303 stations, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation told the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
The DMRC, in its affidavit filed before the apex court, said over 85 per cent of the metro network, 258 stations, remained fully operational, accessible and functional for commuters.
The affidavit of DMRC comes in the backdrop of the contempt plea alleging wilful disobedience.
On Sunday, Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana had issued notice to the Union Home Secretary, Delhi Police Commissioner and DMRC Chairperson.
In an affidavit filed in the top court, the DMRC said the entry and exit regulations were undertaken pursuant to assessment of law enforcement agencies and in accordance with their directions.
"The actual number of passengers who boarded the metro on October 10, 2026 was 32 lakh approx., as against approximately 58 lakh passengers on a normal second Saturday," the DMRC said, attributing the drop to protests.
It said lower ridership indicated adverse impact on the lives of ordinary citizens, many of whom chose not to travel and were thereby compelled to forego their usual activities.
The corporation filed the compliance report in pursuance of the apex court's October 9 order. While hearing a plea against closure of metro stations and cancellation of trains to Delhi in view of the October 10 protest against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, the apex court had directed the Centre to ensure there was no complete prohibition of movement of metro and trains coming to Delhi.
A Bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant -- which had earlier directed DMRC and others to file a compliance affidavit -- is scheduled to hear the plea on Thursday.
The protest call was given by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and some student organisations against CEC Gyanesh Kumar over the alleged irregularities in the functioning of the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
DMRC said a total of 271 trains were inducted and all 4,157 scheduled trips were operated.
