US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that Tuesday Pakistan has decided to re-open NATO supply routes to Afghanistan. This was after she expressed her "deepest regrets" to Pakistan for a drone strike last November that claimed the lives of 24 security personnel.
Clinton said she offered her "deepest regrets" to Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar for the "tragic incidents", CNN reported.
In a statement, Clinton said: "This is a tangible demonstration of Pakistan's support for a secure, peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan and our shared objectives in the region."
She said the action would also help the US and the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force conduct a planned draw-down of troops at a much lower cost. "This is critically important to the men and women who are fighting terrorism and extremism in Afghanistan."
Pakistan had shut down the NATO supply route to Afghanistan in protest against an airstrike by the coalition forces on two border posts last year that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers last November.
