SL CJ spurns compromise bid by government

Given the widespread opposition both at home and abroad to the impeachment of the Sri Lankan Chief Justice, Shirani Bandaranayake, some leading persons are trying to bring about a patch up between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the CJ so that the country’s institutional framework is preserved and its international image does not get tarnished further. But success is evading these “secret” moves.
“The government wants a patch up, but the Chief Justice has rejected the moves,” a source close to the CJ told Express on Monday. The CJ firmly held on to her stand that she was not guilty of any of the 14 charges, including the three on which she was indicted by the government-dominated Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) last week, the source said.
However, the Tamil daily, Sudar Oli, reported that the CJ had discussed the question of rapprochement with Lanka’s top Buddhist monks, the Mahanayakes or Chief Incumbents of the Malwatte and Asgirya chapters of the Maha Sangha, in Kandy on Sunday. It further said unofficial representatives of the President and the CJ were to meet in Colombo last Thursday, but it did not happen.
Meanwhile, the Bar Association of Sri Lanka called for a day’s strike in the CJ’s support on Wednesday.

CJ dont buckle under pressure. You have not done anything and you are the beacon of hope for justice freedom and equality in the Country and indeed the wider world. Please don give in and may god bless you Kali Mahasakthi is with you

The CJ's good name and reputation has been tarnished by the ruling regime. There is nothing to patch up and this educated lady, holding the highest position in Sri Lanka's judiciary, should not give in. The damage is done!!

Mahinda Rajapaksa thinks he is invincible. He can hit someone on the cheek and get the that person to apologize to him. Amazingly, there are plenty of people who are willing to sacrifice their good name built over a lifetime, to save his hiney. Even the chief monks, whom this guy threatened to bomb one time, will rush to his rescue. Soon, you will see "prominent" individuals coming out of the woodwork, to "advice" the Chief Justice to take what ever is offered to her; and they'll say that it is for the good of the country.

CJ is accused of serious matters. She is innocent , until proved guilty. The best is for her to step down and let the investigations be completed. If she is not involved in money laundering, why should she fear? Sri Lanka has one of the most impartial judicial systems in the world. She was head of it, and she should know it. She should step down now, and return if and when she is found innocent. The alleged activities are so serious, Sri Lankan Government should be commended for such restrained actions.

Not realy my friend, he is the one who saved SL from a 3 year ruthless terrorist champaign waged against innocent citizens of SL by Indian backed Tamil Tiger terrorist.
