Congress and JD (S) support Shettar over Cauvery issue
Much to the relief of Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, the Congress and the JD (S) have decided to support the government over the Cauvery River sharing issue. On September 19, a meeting, which was convened by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to settle the dispute over River Cauvery's water sharing between the chief ministers of the two states, Shettar from Karnataka and J Jayalalithaa of Tamil Nadu, had ended in a stalemate. Speaking at an all-party meet in Bangalore, Shettar said that he was not in a position to share Cauvery river water as such an order would be an injustice to the people.
