Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday moved the Principal Sessions Court with a criminal complaint against former deputy Chief Minister and DMK treasurer, M K Stalin for issuing a false statement on the prevalence of cholera in the city, and the printer, publisher and editor of the Times of India, Chennai, for it.
According to the complaint, filed through City Public Prosecutor M L Jagan, Stalin’s statement carried by Times of India in its issue dated August 2 stated that he could not understand how a Chief Minister could have a vacation when the whole city was suffering (from cholera). The statement was totally fallacious, defamatory and without any basis.
The Chief Minister was in Kodanad for a certain period of time. However, all official and constitutional duties were continouously discharged by her, irrespective of her place of stay.
In fact, Jayalalithaa was discharging her duties even on Sundays, which would clearly indicate that she was performing the Constitutional functions and running the government in an effective and efficient manner.
Without any verification or inquiry, the publication of such a defamatory and bald statement was defamatory and per se derogatory, the CPP said and sought to punish the accused persons in Times of India — printer and publisher S Santhanagopal and editor Sunil Nair — for offences under sections 500 and 501 of the IPC, and Stalin under Section 500 of the IPC.

Newindpress Editor, please dont censure/delete this. I am writing this as a free individual, under the Rights given by the Constitution! The Tamilnadu CM is back to her old ways it appears. She is trying to muzzle the free Press and everyone else with her scare tactics. What is wrong with Stalin or Vijayakant speaking about the CM? They have been elected too and Vijayakant is the Leader of the Opposition and they will speak their minds. The TN CM is elected to Administer the State and She is Not the 'Ruler/Empress' of the state. She wants others to follow the Law of the land, but she is not prepared to follow the Law herself! She must attend the Court in Bangalore in the DA Case first and Not try to question the Judge appointed by the Supreme Court. If she continues her present tactics, she will be out of Office very soon. Please dont even dream of a 5 year 'rule' as CM. The public is getting fedup of your behaviour and your scare tactics. Please dont take the people of TN for granted!

@ Mr.Venkat Freedom to speech does not mean freedom to blasphemy. Jaya has every right to sue who had propogating false allegations. She has valid point. She is not discharging her regular duties. I would definitely say that she need some refreshment and recharge at times. Her rule is far more better than M.K's regime. I still imagine the days where M.K always in Fecilation ceremonies, film opening ceremonies sitting between Rajni and Kamal ,100th day function, audio casette release functions etc..

Mr. Venkat, let me know who the true politician of Tamilnadu, like Rajaji or Bakthavachalam. All are hell bent on looting publicly, in the disguise of rule. People ot tamil nadu should choose a party who is methodical, uphold the constitution with out kick back. Fucked up politicians of Tamilandu are no trustworthy. All in same platform.

The current politicians are not Rajaji or Bakthavatchalam. Are our people like how they were in 195os.? How many Tamilians would vote without taking money. they want free electricity, free mixies, laptops, cycles, grinders etc. Have all these paid taxes to the government. why the voters did not disregard Jayalalithaa when she offered freebies. Is not shameful to accept freebies for votes? there are some print media in the state who like Jayalalithaa bashing. what can Vijayakanth do? A man who has no qualification, behaves like a rowdy in public wants to rule the state? A union minister called Azhagiri, never visits the Lok shaba or Rajya Sabha to take questions. He can not speak English or Hindi. He is scared. Is he not fooling the people who voted him to power? TN Voters are smart. they know how to get what they want. Tamil Nadu is a pioneer in this!
