Despite the Tamil Nadu Government’s green signal for helicopter tourism, the project did not materialise when it was first proposed in 2007. The proposal has been revived and with the preliminary work already on, the plan could soon become a reality.
According to sources, the preliminary work to identify land for setting up helipads at Rameswaram and Kodaikanal have already begun. Power Hans Helicopter Limited (PHHL), which came up with the proposal five years ago has made the proposal again and has conducted an inspection at Rameswaram and Kodaikanal.
“PHHL, a subsidy of Air India will operate between Madurai-Rameshwaram, Madurai-Kodaikanal and within Madurai for aerial sight seeing on a daily basis, and the cost per person will and the cost per person will be Rs 3,000,” said B S G Musthafa, president of Travel Club. A team from the PHHL, is reportedly in the process of identifying land near Mother Teresa University in Kodaikanal and near Ucchipuli in Rameswaram.
