Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has ordered construction of police barracks at Kamuthi in Ramanathapuram district and establishment of one more Armed Reserve unit in Ariyalur district. She has also ordered creation of 558 new posts of sanitary workers to clean police stations and buildings attached to them. All these measures would cost an additional expenditure of Rs 15 crore.

In an effort to ensure lodging facility for police personnel being deputed for providing security during festivals and important events, barracks would be constructed at Kamuthi to accommodate 500 police personnel (250 men and 250 women) at a cost of Rs 9.32 crore.

Considering that Ariyalur district had no Armed Reserve unit of the police department ever since the district was created, the CM had already ordered creation of three battalions of Armed Reserve Police and one at the headquarters, comprising 188 police personnel. To strengthen this unit further, the CM has now directed that one more battalion of Armed Reserve with 64 personnel should be formed for the district. She also directed that 26 new posts of police personnel should be created for the headquarters. These measures would cost the State government an additional expenditure of Rs 2.93 crore.

Considering the increasing number of general public coming to the police stations to redress their grievances and the necessity to keep the premises of the police stations and the offices attached to them clean, the CM has directed that 558 posts of sanitary workers should be created. This would cost an additional expenditure of Rs 2.75 crore.
