The DMDK’s eighth general council and working committee meeting on Friday failed to enlighten partymen on the way forward. The meeting had been aimed at discussing the Lok Sabha polls and attempting to hold the ranks of the party together, according to party functionaries. Instead, resolutions condemning the Central and State governments on a variety of issues were passed, apart from one resolution urging the State government to withdraw its defamation cases against party founder Vijayakant.
Sources in the party told Express that many functionaries returned empty handed from the meeting as there was no clear cut indication on who the party would ally with for the Lok Sabha polls.
“There have been media reports that our leader is discussing deals with the DMK. There have also been reports that he is talking to the Congress. We are in the dark. This is making it difficult to face ground level supporters,” said an office bearer from western Tamil Nadu. He added that there was no worthwhile movement on the issue of party MLAs dallying with the ruling party.
It flayed the Centre for failing to act in the Cauvery River water row, the Mullaiperiyar issue, attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen among others.

As a longtime film-hero, Vijayakant knows only one thing- producers approaching him to play roles. He is yet to be out of that mood; he wants other producers (parties) to line up in front of his house. He still thinks in terms of market-ratings, hero-value etc! He always talks in those terms as though he is still a salable hero. His entry into politics is an ACCIDENT. Unless he opens up to say what he stands for, his goals, aspirations for people, (other than only airing negative comments after negative ones), the normal voters- with affiliation elsewhere -will never migrate to get attracted to him. Let us see 'how long his show lasts'. See how VAIKO has positive programs ( except that ONE fixation on LTTE) and goes around unmindful of anything else. VIJAYAKANT is NOT a political leader ;"he just happened to float a party to safe-guard some of his personal interests". The date of expiry as film-hero long back arrived; as political leader it is fast approaching!

Why should DMDK go for allies to contest in the next election to the Lok Sabha ? Let it contest on its won strength . Anyhow it has learnt to work as opposition party in the Tamilnadu assembly. That experience will give courage to go alone so that it can know its strenth in the next Lok Sabha Election 2014. Going for allies will be showing its weakness>
