Kerala police detains 51 Sri Lankan refugees bound for Australia

09th January 2013 10:41 AM

Kerala police have arrested 51 Sri Lankan refugees belonging to different refugee camps in Tamil Nadu, when they allegedly tried to escape to Australia through illegal ferry. All the arrested refugees were handed over to the ‘Q’ Branch police at Theni district on Tuesday.

Following a tip-off that a group of over 50 Sri Lankan refugees were staying at a lodge in Thekkady Kerala police rushed to the spot.

During enquiries the refugees had told cops that they had come to Thekkady to spend their holidays. However, cops, who were not convinced by their reply, informed the Theni Q branch police. The Q branch personnel then took the 51 refugees, including 28 men, 10 women and 13 children to a marriage hall at Cumbum and held investigations. On interrogation, it was found out that the refugees had come from several camps without obtaining proper permission. It was also found out that they had a plan to reach Australia via Kochi.  The Q  branch police informed that they were waiting for instructions from higher authorities on the next course of action.

OMG Tamils dont like to saty in south India either ! They must have been raped and genocided by Indian Tamils

How can the Indian Govt. justify this? Aren't they genuine refugees who were chased out of their Country and lively-hood? Shame on you India! Damn Shame!!! What's wrong if they go to Australia or to the West to better themselves than to live as refugees all their lives in India? I as a Sri Lankan felt that India has been magnanimous in sheltering our unfortunate Sri Lankans, all these years and even 3 years after the War. Where are your Standards for Human Rights and Human Dignity????

In India the refugees are not allowed to work. They can only stay there as refugees forever. Shame on India, there are more refugees working in China than India. The Indians must treat refugees humanly or let them go somewhere else. The Westerners ruled the Indian Subcontinent for more than 440 years, but they never done anything to eliminate the caste system, gender inequality etc. Because they know that it will eat the Indian Subcontinent and keep them under the West. The West has a lot to talk about India's failure than communism in China, but they won't talk about India, because it will highlight their deliberate misleading to keep the Asians under them, plus India is not a threat to their dominant power, but China. Recently a major newspaper in New Zealand published an article. "English are to blame for India's backwardness" on page B5 on The Dominion Post by Philip Collins. Date January 5, 2013. Not all Westerners are naive or blind, there are people like Philip Collins.

Why is India still wasting it's resources on Sri Lankan Refugees? India should demand Sri Lankan Govt to ensure safety, security and economic climate for the Sri Lankans to return to their country. Or else, help them to go to any other country that will ensure them a Future.
