e-stamping 2nd Phase kicks off

The e-stamping facility (electronic stamp duty payment), launched on a pilot basis in Puducherry  sub-registrar’s office on July 18 has been extended to the sub-registrar’s office at Oulgaret, Villianur, Bahour and Thirukanur from Monday. The facility which was launched for denominations above Rs 10,000 has been now extended for all denominations.

The e-stamping counters have been set up at these sub-registrar’s offices to facilitate the people to avail of the facility, which gives the customer the convenience of paying stamp duty without the hassles involved in obtaining a stamp paper or faking a document. Further the e-stamping counters will be available in the Indian Bank branches at Reddiarpalayam, Villianur, Kirumampakkam and Thirukanur.

E-stamping counters exist in office of the district registrar at Puducherry sub-registrary, the office of stock holding corporation of India at Mission Street and Indian bank branch on 100 feet road. The e-stamps purchased in any counter will be valid through out Puducherry region in all the sub-registries. The e-stamping facility will be extended to the outlying regions of Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam in January. So far within the Puducherry sub-registry, 277 numbers of e-stamping certificates worth Rs 5.5 crore have  been issued.

As of now both e-stamping and stamp paper will coexist, till the existing  stock worth Rs 70 crore is exhausted. People will have the option of  choosing stamp paper or e-stamping.

The most important aspect of e-stamping is  that it cannot be transferred to any other person.

The government has earned a revenue of Rs 86 crore through stamp duty till November in the current year, the targeted revenue being Rs 120 crore (budget estimates), district registrar R Baskaran told Express.
