TN's approach on Cauvery not right: Vijayakant

06th December 2012 05:34 PM

Opposition leader in the Tamil Nadu assembly and DMDK founder Vijayakant today blamed chief minister Jayalalithaa's 'wrong approach' for Karnataka not releasing Cauvery water to the State.

Former chief ministers, the late M G Ramachandran and M Karunanidhi have negotiated with their Karnataka counterparts and got water released, he said.

However, the approach of the present chief minister was not that fruitful, due to which farmers of the State were suffering for the last few months, he told reporters here.

The only solution to the crisis was to handing over the KRS dam to the military and get water released, Vijayakant, who appeared before the District Sessions court, in connection with a defamation case filed by the State government, said.

Both the States (Karnataka and Tamil Nadu) were playing double games with regard to Cauvery issue, he said.

Stating that the Government had filed nine cases against him, he said he was ready to face any number of cases in all the 32 districts and fight legally.

He said the opposition parties in Tamil Nadu were seen as enemies by the ruling party and government, which should change.

Vijayakant said the chief minister has not given him audience to discuss various problems being faced by people, though he had sought an appointment a month ago.

On alliance for the coming Lok Sabha polls, Vijayakant said the issue would be discussed at the time of elections.

His party was confident of winning on its own from all the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, he said.

Well said Captain. Military should be placed on Kaveri Dams to see TN gets atleast some water. As far as JJ, she is behaving like a Empress or Ruler, neither of which she is. She should have the decency to talk to all members of the Opposition. They are not her Enemies!

What other plans this stalwart has? Does he know fully the Cauvery water problem? If he has guts he can come to Bangalore and talk. Tamilians should think before voting vijayakant in the next election.

It's true and also unfortunate that TN chief minister J Jayalalitha behaves in a manner which fits only the types of dictators of the Qadaffi clan! The tone was set of the recent talks by her when she brought even chairs for her to sit in Bangalore! It was either that Karnataka had to order some spacious chairs for Jayalalitha at short notice or she simply had a cold attitude! The latter seems more pertinent. And thus the the outcome of the meeting of the two ministers was known even before the talks began! Sadly enough, TN politicians have been behaving like emotional kids shorn of any maturity. Colouring and spicing the Cauvery issue is only for electoral gains. Farmers and the crops are just sheilds. TN should learn to behave in a more mature manner. It should try to see the realities. Failed monsoon in Karnataka as was the case all throughout India has rendered releasing of water to TN more difficullt.

On one hand Vijayakanth is accusing Jayalalithaa of not having negotiation talks but on other hand demands army take over the KRS dam. How does he plan to get army take over the dam - through negotiation or through court or through violent protests in TN/KA ? He is just attacking Jayalalithaa because of the fallout with her.

Pl. let us stop expecting that the supreme court's orders would be implemented or that force can be used etc. If you want water, forget about your legal rights but talk, talk and talk with Karnataka politicians, both ruling party and opposition, appeal to their good senses, make it clear that you are not disputing their own shortage woes, your request is not a demand or command but a dire necessity requiring immediate compassionate response. Get all parties from Karnataka to accept without breach a renegotiated understanding applicable for lean years. Does not matter if they agree to release reduced share as long as they stick to the agreed understanding/comitment and will not renege. It is better to have a bi-party settlement. And make it easy for their politicians by making it appear that you are quite willing to scale down your minimum requirements during scanty/distress years as long as assured minimum quantity is released.
