The DMK lost its second former minister in three days, with Samayanallur S Selvaraj succumbing to cancer in Chennai on Sunday evening.
Party leaders paid a visit to the private hospital where the former minister breathed his last and paid their respects.
Selvaraj had been suffering from Hepatocellular Carcinoma, or liver cancer. Sources at the hospital said the cancer was at an advanced stage and had spread to Selvaraj’s spine and brain. He had been under radiotherapy and palliative therapy.
Selvaraj had been brought in a few days ago with disorientation and general uneasiness. He had been kept at the ICU, where he breathed his last on Sunday evening.
DMK leaders, led by their patriarch M Karunanidhi and his son MK Stalin, paid their respects to Selvaraj at the hospital and offered their condolences to his family.
The deceased former minister’s body is set to be taken to his native town in Madurai district.
