Rs 71,000 seized at sub-registrar office

In a surprise raid sleuths attached to the Vellore unit of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-corruption (DVAC) wing seized over Rs 71,000 from officials at the sub-registrar office in Kaveripakkam on Thursday.
The surprise raid led by Deputy Superintendent of Police of DVAC, Vellore, M Balasubrmanian and Inspection Cell Officer of District Inspection Cell, Abdul Haq, lasted from 4 pm to 10 pm. The team seized around Rs 71,000 of unaccounted money from the officials at the office, including Rs 18,000 from sub-registrar A Anandammal, said a police officer.
The seized money was handed over to the District Treasury Office in Vellore on Friday. A case has been registered under Section 102 of CrPC in connection with the seizure, said the DSP.
