Senior scribes felicitated

Justice Ananga Kumar Patnaik of the Supreme Court has called upon the journalists to uphold the ethical sanctity of the Freedom of Press.

Speaking during the National Press Day organised here on Friday by the National Journalist Welfare Board, Justice Patnaik said journalists have played an important role for the success of democracy in the country.

Addressing the function, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Surya Narayan Patro said journalists should also bring to fore the good work done by the Government.

Rajya Sabha member Baisnab Charan Parida said media is the link between the people and their representatives.

Minister of State for Information and Public Relations Arun Sahu said the process of identification of journalists, started by the State Government, will be expedited.

Bhubaneswar Mayor Anant Narayan Jena also spoke. The National Journalist Welfare Board felicitated several senior journalists.

The Board paid pension to 10 senior journalists of the State with retrospective effect from 2011.

The journalists are Barendra Krushna Dhal, Ramahari Mishra, Pradosh Patnaik, Basant Das, Dulal Mishra, Prashant Patnaik, Arun Panda, Prabodh Mishra, Subash Patnaik and Rabi Das.

The function was presided over by working president of the National Journalists’ Welfare Board Pradosh Patnaik.

Board vice-president Pradyumna Mohanty proposed the vote of thanks.
