Toll in Kerala flash floods rises to 8

With the recovery of the body of a
girl Thursday, the toll in the August 7 flash floods triggered by
heavy rains in Pulloorampara near here has risen to eight.
Though authorities had included the girl, who went missing,
among the deceased list on the day of the mishap, her body was
found this morning on the banks of river Iravanhipuzha, about
200 metres away from the spot from where she was swept away,
official sources said.
Meanwhile, relief work at Pullurampara and Iritty in Kannur
district, which was also battered by heavy rains, was going on
in full swing folloing a let-up in the rains.
chief minister Oommen Chandy was expected to visit the
rain ravaged regions in both the districts tomorrow.
