Facelift for Hill Palace Museum

A total of Rs 6 crore from the Central Government and `60 lakh from the state government will be immediately used for the comprehensive development of the Hill Palace Museum and the Centre for Cultural Studies, said Cultural Affairs Minister K C Joseph.

He was speaking after visiting the Hill Palace Museum and Centre for Cultural Studies on Monday.

He added that a meeting with the Archaeological Department and the ministers concerned will be held in Thiruvananthapuram the next month.

“A final decision regarding the proposal put forward by the Hill Palace authorities, including the solid waste management programme, light and sound programme on Kerala heritage, and modernisation of the office and the planetarium will be considered at the meeting,” he said.

Excise and Fisheries Minister K Babu and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob also accompanied Cultural Minister K C Joseph during the visit.

The ministers had visited the deer park at Hill Palace. They suggested the maintenance of the park by reducing the number of deer.

He also suggested sending some deer to the new park being constructed at Peechi.

Earlier in the day, a meeting was held between the ministers and Hill Palace authorities. Director General of the Centre for Cultural Studies M G S Narayanan, Director of Archaeology J Reji Kumar, museum curator K R Sona, CHS academic affairs dean M G Sasibhooshan and municipal chairman R Venugopal attended the meeting.
