Special arrangements for Makaravilakku

Various special arrangements will be made during the peak days of Makaravilakku to facilitate the safety of pilgrims, said ADGP P Chandrasekharan. He told reporters here on Sunday that barricades would be built at Pulmedu, Panchalimedu and Parunthumpara for the purpose. Drinking water and proper lighting will be provided and adequate number of police personnel will be deployed at the three locations. The arrangements would be made as per the recommendations of the Justice Hariharan Nair Commission which investigated the Pulmedu tragedy.Chandrasekharan said that directions were given to Idukki police to look into complaints regarding excess fares charged by jeep operators who carry pilgrims from Vandiperiyar to Sathram. He added that around 1,400 police personnel would be deployed at Sannidhanam and 1,200 at Pamba during peak Mandala Pooja days.
