Nuals to roll out new courses

The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (Nuals) has launched an initiative of collaborating with other varsities to chalk out academic programmes, including new courses. As part of this the varsity held talks with Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) officials on Thursday for launching continuing medical legal education and training programmes.

 “The concept of universities working as islands must change as there is tremendous scope for mutual cooperation. More interdisciplinary programmes will benefit both students and society. We held talks with Kerala University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Dr K Mohandas for mutual cooperation and an agreement will be inked on collaborative academic programmes. We also want to introduce dual courses at a later stage,” Nuals Vice-Chancellor N K Jayakumar said.

 The Bar Council of India has given the nod and the programmes will be chalked out soon wherein medical students can learn more on law pertaining to their subject and law students more on medical law.

KUHS VC said that preliminary discussion on collaborative programmes were held.

 “We are considering the possibilities to launch interdisciplinary programmes. Two teams have been appointed for chalking out a road map. “A Memorandum of Understanding will be signed after the Medical Council of India gives the nod,” he said.

New research projects and training programmes will be initiated which will benefit both medical and law students.
