Calling for a democratic secular coalition against the fascist forces in the country and thereby strengthening the UPA at the Centre, the two-day national meet of the Indian Union Muslim League concluded here on Sunday.
Speaking to media persons here, IUML national president and Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahmed said that Muslim League would continue its alliance with the like-minded parties in order to strengthen the secular democratic coalition.
“Only Congress could set up a strong democratic secular alliance as an alternative for the rightwing fascist groups in the country,” opined Ahmed.
The general council meeting held here unanimously re-elected E Ahmed as the president and K M Kader Mohideen from Tamil Nadu as general secretary. Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty is the new treasurer. E T Mohammed Basheer MP, Abdussamad Samadani MLA, Khorrun Anis Omer (Delhi), S Naim Akhtar (Bihar) and Shahinsha Jahangir (West Bengal) were elected as national secretaries.
The assistant secretaries are: Shamim Sadiq (Maharashatra), Dr M Mateen Khan (UP), Siraj Ebrahim Sait (Karnataka), Abdul Basith (Tamil Nadu) and Sharafuddin Ansari (Rajasthan), said Ahmed.
Muslim Youth League leader P K Feroze was elected as the convenor of the nine-member organising committee of the National Muslim Youth League.
