Sree Poornathrayeesa temple's Vrischikolsavam.
Vrischikolsavam, the eight-day annual festival of Sri Poornathrayeesha Temple, will conclude on Monday with ‘kodiyirakkam’ (the bringing down of the holy flag) and ‘aarattu’(holy bath) rituals.
The holy flag will be brought down by the temple chief priest. After the ‘aarattu’, a procession will be taken to the temple with the accompaniment of ‘pandimelam’, headed by Peruvanam Kuttan Marar. Five caparisoned tuskers will accompany the procession.
When the procession reaches the western gateway, the tusker carrying the ‘thidambu’ will bow down in front of Elayidathillam, the ancestral house of the traditional temple trustee.
And when it reaches the nadappura, traditional temple percussionists will sound the conch, followed by a scintillating panchavadhyam, thimila and maddalam.
Meanwhile, the Valiya Vilakku ritual was held on Sunday. The ritual also concluded the ottamthullal sessions during the festival. Vayalar Krishnankutty, Renjith Tripunithura and Kalamandalam Prabhakaran had performed ottanthullal.
Valiya Vilakku was the highlight of the day when thousands of oil lamps were lit around the temple. Maddala pattu, kombu pattu, kurumkuzhal pattu and panchari melam were performed to mark the Valiya Vilakku.
