Raising many eyebrows and fuelling rumours on the Pariyaram Co-operative Medical College, Co-operation Minister C N Balakrishnan visited CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan at the AKG centre here on Wednesday. The meeting lasted for around 20 minutes. The Minister said that he met Pinarayi Vijayan just to invite him for the upcoming State Sahakarana Congress being held in Thrissur, being an important leader.
Balakrishnan also said that his visit had nothing to do with Pariyaram Medical College. “It was not discussed. Where is the need for discussions when a committee has been constituted by the UDF to go into the issues connected with the college?” he asked.
The denial notwithstanding the spat within the UDF with the CMP raking up the issue and the CPM-controlled administrative committee joining it, has given an interesting dimension to the Balakrishnan-Pinarayi Vijayan meet. A six-member sub-committee headed by CMP leader M V Raghavan, constituted at the UDF meet on Monday last, has been asked to study the Pariyaram Medical College issue and give recommendations. The demand for a government takeover is being mooted by many quarters.
