MLAs loyal to B S Yeddyurappa served a three-day deadline to CM D V Sadananda Gowda to convene a legislature party meeting to decide on change of leadership. They are demanding replacement of Gowda with RDPR Minister Jagadish Shettar. The reason they are citing for the same is that the party cannot win the next Assembly elections under Gowda’s leadership.
According to sources, the Yeddyurappa camp has already started a signature campaign to support Shettar and if necessary, they would go to Delhi to pressure the party high command.
After being silent for four weeks, as many as 10 followers of the former CM held a meeting at Yeddyurappa’s Bangalore residence to decide on the meeting. Udasi told reporters after the meeting that no signature campaign was being carried out. According to sources, the former CM had acquiesced to project Shettar as replacement for Gowda.
Meanwhile, Yeddyurappa supporters have convened a meeting at Udasi’s residence on Tuesday.
