10th November 2012 11:03 AM

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar disclosed that the state government is studying the pros and cons of Shiggaon Lift Irrigation Project with the sprinkler and drip irrigation system.

“If the system is found fit, the state government will consider to adopt it in all its irrigation projects,” he said on Friday after inaugurating the `238 crore Lift Irrigation Project in Bankapur village.

He said that the Irrigation Department is planning to form Water Users Associations in Shiggaon Lift Irrigation project catchment area and it would be handed over to farmers to monitor.

“Our government has completed all the incomplete irrigation projects as well as cleared the lift irrigation schemes which were pending,” he said.

Condemning the attack on Karnataka officials in Kolhapur, Shettar urged the Maharashtra government to provide security to those living there.
