Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Urban Development and BWSSB S Suresh Kumar did not appear before the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) in person on Thursday.
The BMTF had issued a summons to him in connection with illegal denotification of land.
An advocate, representing Suresh Kumar, appeared before the BMTF and prayed for more time.
“The advocate has asked for a little more time before the minister appears to make his submissions on charges of illegal denotification of land,” a BMTF source said under the condition of anonymity.
BMTF chief R P Sharma said, “It is a natural routine that we grant extension at the first opportunity. This is done only if the person seeking extension does so for a reasonable time. This is no special concession for any prominent person, but a natural course to give someone a second opportunity.”
Suresh Kumar had to appear before Deputy Superintendent of Police Pramod Rao, the investigating officer in the case.
Based on a complaint by social activist Dinesh Kallalli, the BMTF had o filed an FIR against Suresh Kumar who has been accused of allegedly denotifying land reserved by the Karnataka Slum Clearance Board for building houses for the poor.
The next date for summons has not yet been decided by the BMTF.
