Naidu stages dharna on fee row

Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu staged a dharna in front of KBR Park here on Wednesday to protest against the capping of reimbursement fee by the government to students of engineering colleges at Rs 31,000 per annum.

Nadiu, who addressed a BCs meeting earlier in the day, decided to stage the protest against the fee reimbursement issue at the park, as a result of which the busy roads in Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills witnessed traffic snarls.

The police let him complete his address and arrested him later while he was trying to proceed to the state secretariat.

Addressing demonstrators who were mostly students, Naidu said the TDP’s agitation for ensuring justice would continue till the government retraced its steps.

“In our BC declaration, we promised 100 Assembly seats for BCs and 50 per cent reservation in civic bodies,” Naidu said. He added that the Congress government had ruined the investment climate in the state by resorting to corruption because of which no company was coming forward to set up industries or offer jobs to students. “When TDP was in power, the students used to get placement letters in the second year of the engineering courses,” he said.
