Bal enters semifinals

Davis Cup coach and former international Nandan Bal reached the semifinal of the men’s 45-plus category of the Rajah Muthiah ITF Seniors Grade 4 Tournament in Chidambaram on Thursday.
In the quarterfinal, he thrashed Kannan Kailash 6-2, 6-1. Pairing up with Trichur Parasuram Rajaram, he also moved into the last four of the men’s doubles event.

Men’s 45+ (singles quarterfinals: Bushan Chandra bt Thomas Thangaraj 6-1, 6-1, Trichur Parasuram Rajaram bt Harsh Sgarna 6-2, 6-1, Nandan Bal bt Kannan Kailash 6-2, 6-1, Arun K bt Vinod Seth 6-4, 6-3.
Men’s 55+ quarterfinals: Bharat Bhushan Mehta bt Francis Rodrigues 6-3, 6-2, S Nelord bt Ramakrishnan Ramesh Mavelikalam 7-6(4), 6-4, Venkatachalam M Swaminathan bt Rajagopalan Krishnamurthy 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, Suresh Murthati bt Chakma Dipak Kumar 6-0, 6-1.
