Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered setting up of a special investigation team to probe the alleged gangrape of a teenager by five school students on June 12 and the circumstances in which a CD of the incident was made public.
Officials today said the chief minister's secretariat had directed Patna Police and Women's Commission, which had recorded the victim's statement, to send the details of the case to it. On receipt of the reports, Kumar ordered DGP Abhayanand to set up the SIT to probe and fast-track the case.
The alleged incident, that took place at Rajvanshi Nagar here, came to light earlier this week in a news report and Bihar Women's Commission had taken suo motu cognisance of it.
It lodged an FIR with the police, which began investigations into it.
Two persons surrendered in connection with the incident on Friday. An 18-year-old boy, named as a suspect, surrendered before chief judicial magistrate Ramakant Yadav and was sent to Beur jail on 14-day judicial remand.
The second surrender was full of drama as one of the boys, seen in the CD, whose apartment was reportedly used for the alleged gangrape reached a local news channel office late last night and offered to surrender.
The boy, who was interviewed by the channel, claimed he was not involved in the heinous act but had filmed it.
The police arrived and took him into custody from the studio itself even as he was being interviewed.
Earlier, four of the accused in the case were arrested from Himachal Pradesh, Jalandhar and Patna.
