Protesters participate in a protest at Vijay Chowk in New Delhi on Saturday to demand justice for the gang rape victim.
A number of protesters who stay put at Raisina Hill to protest the gang-rape of a young girl were evacuated early this morning.
The protesters, who spend a chilly night in the open after they fought pitched battle with police throughout the day yesterday, were taken into a bus by police.
Police had also picked up protesters from outside Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's 10, Janpath residence in the wee hours today.
In a surprise move, Gandhi had came out of her residence and met protesters late last night.
According to a protester, Gandhi told them "I am with you. I can't tell when the justice will be delivered, but surely it will be. We will do something."
The protesters when asked for a deadline, she said, "I can't give you a deadline but action will be taken."
The detentions came as part of a police plan to contain protest near Raisina Hill, the seat of power.
Four metro stations near India Gate and Raisina Hill have already been closed from this morning till further orders.
The stations which remained closed were Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhavan and Race Course.

Sir, Watching the TV images on 22 Dec - of young college students and their anger at the establishment, sitting in Chennai, I was shouting for someone in authority to go across to the apolitical gathering on Rajpath/Vijay Chowk, and speak to these students. It would have acted as an instant 'pain relief balm'. But then I forgot - we are a Nation ruled by 'LILLIPUTANS'. None of them had the courage to go in person and mollify the angry students. And then, adding insult to injury, was the anemic statement of the Home Minister at NIGHT. No sir !! Its an insult to call us as an 'representative democracy'. The rulers are too far removed from the people. And let the rulers learn a lesson from History. Woebetide them when 'students get angry'. Heard about the Gujarat Nav Nirvan Sangharsh Smiti ? What happened therafter ? Students in the U.S. stopped the Viet Nam war. France - students and Charles De Gaulle !! The UPA is warned. Regards

An impotent 'government' and' police force' watched 2 Italian murderers leave the country , and on the same day the Delhi Police' attacked youth fighting for a cause The Home Minister must resign What is required is not the 'death penalty' for rape , which is inappropriate but a human rights commission which is made into a constitutional authority Failure to do so will cost the Congress government the 2014 elections The Delhi police seem 'stressed out' and will need physiological assistance to help them deal the 'peculiar stresses' the Police force of that city 'suffer' from being the national capital

[!User Complaint!] A proper recourse at calming those students would be to have arrested them, given a sound thrashing and sent them on their way home.

I appreciate the spirit with High Regards, but in the contemporary stage the Law is Very much benefitting the accused, rather the victim ex. Trial. To prove a guilt beyond reasonable doubt or reasonable suspicion the accused with the help of defence council being benefitted. There must be a through study with quick replacement of procedure. It is time for Legislature and Judiciary to be proactive with the current happenings.

Women are being used as tools by opposition parties to create instability in the country, having failed in their earlier attempt to unseat the govt during the FDI motion in parliament. The opposition ought to know overnight solution to an age old problem won't be found by inciting women to take to streets nor a change of govt be made possible by resorting to unconstitutional and extra parliamentary tactics.
