Clamour for Modi as prime ministerial candidate

There is clamour in the Gujarat BJP to project Narendra Modi as a prime ministerial candidate after his third consecutive win the Assembly elections.

Party leaders say his win is a result of his “good governance” and “development-oriented” politics. The logic of “Modi-for-PM players” is that Modi, in a short span of two terms, has been able to carve a national, pan-India image - both for himself and the state - in a manner that no other political leader has been able to do so far.

“The biggest message that Modi has delivered in this election is that the image of good governance and development-oriented politics, which he has consciously sought to create, is in total sync with his ground-level work. It’s this alone that has created this buzz around Brand Modi and Brand Gujarat. How else would you explain other three-term chief ministers like Sheila Dikshit and Navin Patnaik whose respective messages have not transcended the boundaries of their states,” asks a pro-Modi leader in the party.

The leader applies the same logic to BJP leaders like Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan who may similarly be re-elected for the third time next year and may be considered in the big league “but not in the league of Modi just yet”.

Another Modi supporter points out that the statesman-like victory speech, delivered in Hindi, in which he said that India was yearning for politics of good governance and development.

“They used to say good economics doesn’t make good politics - in Gujarat, people have shown what good economics and good governance can achieve,” Modi said.

BJP leaders highlighted the almost uneven contest that the state witnessed in urban and semi-urban seats, where the message of the good governance and development has percolated down to the grassroots.

The implicit message was that the BJP would get a huge boost in urban and semi-urban constituencies, were Modi to be in the driving seat for the next General Elections. Modi, inarguably, is the biggest crowd puller among the BJP leaders. His metamorphosis from a Hindutva icon to a “Vikas Purush” may have been complete with the 2012 election where the entire political discourse in the state was centred on development alone. The going for Modi may not be easy, though.

For one, ally JD (U) continues to harbour deep apprehensions about Modi, but some in the BJP counter that if the party manages to win around 180 seats, allies would flock to the party on their own.

Where is the foot-in-mouth man, Mr Diggie? Must have been shocked to death by the return of Modi.

With penetration of TV & internet (educated village - opinion leaders- youth's access to internet) , the vast majority of the Indian voters ( may be excluding Naxalite infected opaque regions) view Modi as the only remedy to rescue the nation. 'Secular' infected media & groups & 'Hindutva' vested interests (unusual de facto unity) , living in the past, continue to hate Modi without realizing their shrinking political base.

BJP should learn from Modi .. and should follow him...to win 2014 general elections. This election is clear that congress got 40% vote, while BJP got 49%.. Now every body in India knows congress 40% vote bank is of SC,ST, and Muslims, and corrupt forward class business men... BJP's voting bank is all castes other than SC,ST and Muslim and all of Middle class ... So one can under stand with the voting patterns, there are 40% beggars in the voters list that is the voting banks of Congress. When this is clear why BJP is still not supporting the other castes ?? why they also want to support the voting banks of congress???? Today it is proved in Gujarat the congress voting banks are in tact there is no disturbance in it. If total polling falls below 60% Congress would have swiped the elections. So the polling is 70% hence Modi won the election. Yet 30% voters not participated in the election. The reluctance in Other castes to vote is helping SC and ST Minority and congress party

After seeing the various TV debates one can safely conclude that the victims of anti sikh riots, who also belong a group of minorities, will never get sympathy from any self appointed secular parivar in the political and media fields .They have to be content only with lip sympathy and half hearted apologies from the powers that me and everyone including the panelists and moderators in the TV and media.Only the Gujarat riot victims alone deserve justice is the mantra.

After hearing the views of congressmen, I conclude that in Tamilnadu it is the congress , who has been winning elections for the Assembly by containing the dravidian parties by aligning with one party or the other in every alternate elections. Those newspapers who have been reporting the election results should correct history. If such mistakes are found textbooks especially CBSE ones, the portion should be withdrawn from the syllabus.Quick action is the need of the hour.
