BJP to protest LPG black marketing

08th December 2012 10:25 AM

The BJP plans to protest inside and outside the Delhi assembly on the issue of black marketing of LPG cylinders. The issue was discussed in the BJP legislative party meeting chaired by V.K Malhotra, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly.

Malhotra said that black marketing of LPG cylinders is a serious issue that affects lakhs of LPG consumers in the capital.

The party would take up the issue in the Assembly session starting on Tuesday.  This is a result of the new subsidy regime introduced by the Central Government which limits the number of cylinders available at subsidised price to six per year.

Malhotra said that the government had stopped supplying kerosene to lakhs of people residing in slums all over the capital. Their kerosene supply was stopped on the assurance that they would be provided with LPG cylinders and that has not been done.

Delhi BJP chief Vijender Gupta said that the BJP will continue its protests on the issue of black marketing of LPG cylinders till the state assembly elections which may be held in the last quarter of 2013.

Gupta alleged that since the limited subsidy of six cylinders had been introduced, the black marketing of cylinders had increased manifold. He said that the government had failed in its commitment to provide piped gas service to people residing in the capital.
