Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma on Friday said government had achieved a "decisive victory" in Rajya Sabha (Upper House of Indian Parliament) on FDI in retail issue and alleged Bharatiya Janata Party is adopting "double standard" now as it had taken several executive decisions unilaterally when in power.
"This is an elected government. It has the mandate to rule. We had got a victory in the Lok Sabha and it was a decisive victory today in the Rajya Sabha," Sharma told reporters outside Parliament House after the voting on FDI.
He alleged the Opposition, especially BJP, is creating a fear psychosis in the minds of small traders and those sales boys and girls who are engaged in retail trade.
"BJP is adopting double standard and different yardsticks. They took several executive decisions in which no stakeholders or political parties, including the then main opposition, were ever consulted. NDA opened up the defence sector, allowed 100 per cent FDI in pharmaceuticals, opened telecom and airport sectors," Sharma said.
The minister maintained the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley had "insulted" young sales boys and girls from families which are financially weak as well as the 10-12 crore people involved in retail trade.
He alleged Jaitley gave wrong figures during the debate in the Rajya Sabha.
"My advice to the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha is that he should fire his resource team and hire a new one," Sharma said.

This cannot be termed as a decisive victory for the Govt., because most of the politicians except those of the UPA at the Centre, actually spoke against FDI in retail. SP walked out, the corrupt Maya voted with the UPA under duress, Congress Govt in Kerala spoke against it. So how can it be a decisive victory? Anyway, as Dr.Maitreyan of AIADMK said, the people will give a befitting reply to this Govt in the next Gen Elections. Yes,it is the people who can teach the arrogant Govt a lesson.

Mr.Anand Sharma, Let us forget the Mayawathi and Mulayam Singh Yadav brand of politics for the moment. They have to make their ends meet like you and I or anybody else. Each one chooses his own way to make a living. (However, your point this should not have gone for voting is correct. But the credibility of your government is so low that anything that you do is being viewed with suspicion - Kyom 2G ?) The point is , Can you in very specific terms tell us how FDI in retail will benefit agriculture. We are yet to see the specifics. Is it too difficult for your resource persons to tell us:: a) What is present status of marketing of agricultural produce in India in various states. b) How FDI in retail in agriculture will change the present status for the better. For the amount of noise you are making, the working for , this must already be with you. Only you have not thought it fit to share it with others (Probably you were confident about Maya -Mualyam brand of politics)
