LeT chief prays for Kasab

Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attack offered funeral prayers for Ajmal Kasab during a two-day convention in Muridke, Lahore. According to Pakistani Urdu newspaper Daily Express, Saeed, founder of LeT led a gathering of thousands in offering ‘Ghayabana namaz-e-Janaza’ (funeral prayers in absentia) for Ajmal Kasab, lone survivor of a team of 10 LeT terrorists who killed 166 people during three days of carnage in 2008.

Kasab was hanged in a Pune jail on November 21, after his mercy petition was rejected by the President on November 5. LeT had described Kasab as a ‘hero who will inspire other fighters to follow his path.’

However, after the media reports on prayers for Kasab, Jamat-ud-Dawah, a front for LeT, distanced itself from the controversy, and in a tweet by Jamat official twitter handle, it said “funeral prayers in absentia were offered for the innocent martyrs of Burma, Gaza and occupied Muslim lands at the end of Muridke convention.”
