Arms haul: Fresh set of charges filed against Abu Jundal

08th November 2012 11:01 PM

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) Thursday filed a supplementary chargesheet against key 26/11 handler Abu Jundal in the 2006 Aurangabad arms haul case in a Mumbai special court, a lawyer said.

Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) Assistant Commissioner of Police Ashok Kamath filed the 263-page supplementary chargesheet before Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Special Judge S.V. Modak, said Shahid N. Ansari, one of the lawyers who appeared in the case.

Jundal has been charged under various sections of the MCOCA, the arms act, the explosives Act and other laws, Ansari said.

The ATS named Jundal as the 22nd and the final accused in the case.

This is in addition to the 3,650-page supplementary charge-sheet filed by the ATS against Jundal Nov 3 for his role in the May 8, 2006 Aurangabad arms haul case.

In the Aurangabad arms haul case, police recovered 43 kg RDX, 50 hand grenades, 16 AK-47 army assault rifles and over 3,000 bullets from two cars on the Chandwad-Manmad Highway.

According to investigators, Jundal, who hails from Beed in Maharashtra, was allegedly driving one of the vehicles, and later managed to escape.

In August this year, the MCOCA special court framed charges against the 21 accused, barring Jundal.

Besides the Aurangabad case, Jundal is also being probed for his role in the February 2010 German Bakery blast of Pune and 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

Jundal, who was arrested by Delhi Police June 21, is lodged in a Gujarat jail in connection with his alleged role in a train blast case.
