Indian embassy in Kuwait in touch with officials over detentions

With over 1,000 Indians being detained in Kuwait in an alleged case of visa misuse, Indian Embassy there is in touch with local authorities and has deputed its officials to various locations where they have been lodged.

Official sources said today Indian Ambassador in Kuwait Satish C Mehta has also briefed External Affairs Minister S M Krishna regarding the matter.

Sources in External Affairs Ministry said "sponsors were being contacted to come and get their detainees released, some have already come and had those under their sponsorship released. All efforts are underway to help the detained Indians."

They also said that Ministry of Overseas Affairs had been informed and asked to get in touch with the Indian agents who have sent them to Kuwait.

Involving cases of visa misuse, over 1,000 Indians have been detained by local authorities in Kuwait.

Officials from Kuwait's Ministry of Interior had in all apprehended 2,136 individuals for expired residency and involvement in drug, theft, liquor and such cases during impromptu security campaigns yesterday.

We cannot let this incident pass with some usual routine handling. Who were trhos etravel agetns and emplooyment wsponsoring agencies in India which lured these visitors. What action is being taken againsyt them. Fro which stateds tghresepeople had trafvelled. Why not cancel the licencses and permtis of the middle men who were resonsible for this mess and ahrdship to 1000 Indians and their families.
