UPA has support of over 300 MPs: Ghulam Nabi Azad

23rd September 2012 05:28 PM

Slamming Trinamool Congress, Union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday said steps like allowing FDI in retail sector, hiking diesel prices and limiting cap on domestic LPG could have been taken earlier if there was no pressure from parties like the one headed by Mamata Banerjee.

Ruling out any threat to the UPA government following withdrawal of support by TMC, the senior Congress leader said, "Our government has support of over 300 MPs in the Lok Sabha, including members from parties giving inside and outside support."

For a simple majority, government needs the support of at least 273 MPs in a House of 545. Azad was talking to reporters here on the sidelines of a function to pay tributes to former King of Jammu and Kashmir Maharaj Hari Singh on its 117th birth anniversary at Dogra Chowk area of the city.

Stoutly defending the decisions, he said every country needed to take strong steps for the betterment of its economy. "This strong step will be better for the country," he said. Azad said the Prime Minister has already clarified that if these steps were not taken, the country would have faced 1991 like situation when gold had to be mortgaged to tide over economic crisis.

"India has managed well on the economic front despite global economy facing recession during the past few years," he said.

IT IS A WHITE LIE! Congress waits for any impending States elections to be completed first, before giving the go ahead signal to oil cos. to hike petrol prices. 'Diesel and LPG prices were NOT HIKED purely for electoral reasons only'. Now a few months are there- a window for hiking prices of petroleum products- that is why we see this sudden hurry to get them done. Now, as far as FDI in retails is concerned lots of stories are circulating. Only an investigative journalist will be able to unearth true story behind it. Incidentally, many recent happenings do not seem to be just coincidence but a deliberate design was behind them. Another lie is on economy doing well. Private entrepreneurship is always seen active in India & Mr. Gurumurthy has written plenty about saving habits of Indians too along with these. Our FM claims credit in only one thing; if Bombay stock index or NIFTY goes up, for him, it means our economy is very sound and it is solely due to his own efforts?

What about the biggest reform the PM, and FM (ex FM included) have not carried out . Getting the money illegally stashed abroad. Who has delayed this reform in Governance? Mamata Banerjee ? Azad should recheck the name of the lady behind this delay. The PM and FM s have not shown the courage the US showed in this regard. They believe in selective reforms and gloat over it.

" no pressure from parties like the one headed by Mamata Banerjee."-Ghulam Nabi Azad . What about DMK that supported the bandh against FDI? With the "support of over 300 MPs in the Lok Sabha " , probably Azad expects DMK to follow Mamata to speed up the 'reform'.

A small adice to the congress. Instead of complaining about its allies, will the Congress make the best use of them and usher in more reforms in the remaining period of its term?

Funny last line - is it due to the exemplary governance of the UPA? Banking system is the main cause for the global melt down. Indian Banking system stood toll - is it because of this Govt? Surely not. It is mainbly because of the conservative household savings. In fact, the Govt. is making use of their hard earned savings only to tide over deficits. See to the Govt. borrowings.
