What is the BMI fuss all about?

28th October 2012 12:00 AM

The BMI, or the Body Mass Index, is the ratio of weight to height. It helps to assess the degree of overweight. According to the internationally-accepted classification for overweight and obesity, the range of 18.5 to 25 is considered as normal or healthy BMI; the range of 25 to 30 is considered as overweight range; while 30 and above is considered as obesity range. Other than the BMI, the waist circumference measured across the top of the hips helps to know whether one is overweight. For women, a healthy waist circumference is less than 35 inches. For men, it should be less than 40 inches. Combining these two methods will help one to keep track of the health risks, and find a solution to those problems.
