BBC names new director-general

LONDON: BBC has named executive George Entwistle to its top post, director-general.
The broadcaster says Entwistle will replace Mark Thompson in the fall.
The new chief had been working as director of BBC Vision. He was chosen by a panel from the BBC Trust, the broadcaster's governing board, which is chaired by Chris Patten.
Thompson held the top post for eight years.
