In actor Vikram’s long film career, Oscar winner AR Rahman has composed music for only two of his films – 'Pudhiya Mannargal' (1994) and 'Raavanan' (2010). Even when the actor teamed up with Shankar, earlier, for 'Anniyan', it was Harris Jayaraj who was signed on to do the music. Now, two years after 'Raavanan', they have been brought together, this time by one of the finest directors of Kollywood — Shankar for his next film, titled 'I'. The crew has already recorded a song penned by lyricist Kabilan, rendered by singer Vijay Prakash. The film was initially said to have been titled 'Therdhal'.

To be produced by Aascar Films V Ravichandran, the film will showcase actors Vikram and Samantha together for the first time on screen and mark the coming together of the director and AR Rahman for the ninth time. Ace cinematographer  PC Sriram will be canning the sequences and Shankar has roped in comedian Santhanam for 'I' after 'Enthiran'. The writer duo of SuBa will pen dialogues for the film. Interestingly, Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi and actor Prabhu’s brother Ram Kumar play important roles in the film.
