Dr Rony Davis thrilled by ‘Ayalum Njanum Thammil’ response

Holding a stethoscope and saving people’s life was what Dr Rony David has been trained to do. But inside the doctor’s white coat, his heart always thumped passionately for acting. We have seen Rony making his subtle but impactful presence through his performances - Rajesh Pillai’s ‘Traffic’ as a sharp and witty journalist and in Aashiq Abu’s ‘Daddy Cool’ where he plays the antagonist’s associate Eeshwar to name a few. Presently the actor is in high spirits with the success of Lal Jose’s ‘Ayalum Njanum Thammil’ where he plays the sturdy Assistant Commissioner of Police ‘Tony Varghese’.

He is happy that his character has been noticed in the film. “The role of ACP was rather tough as my character should sound powerful and authoritative, someone who could take an extremely chaotic situation under control. So to get the mannerisms correct, Ernakulam district ACP, Sunil Jacob helped me out,” says Rony who spent more than a month doing regular workouts for his character. “I was also afraid to work with Lal Jose sir as he is a person who will go on taking shots unless he gets the right shot that he has in mind. And thankfully I never had to repeat more than two shots, but was also doubtful whether I was getting it right as Lal Jose sir hardly made any comment (both positive or negative) while shooting. I am fortunate to work with him and with Bobby and Sanjay,” adds Rony.

Rony, who always aspired to be an actor, says it is all luck and God’s grace that landed him  in silver screen. “It was while I was practicing medicine that my friend informed me about the auditions for Major Ravi’s ‘Kurukshetra’. I did not had hopes but I was selected to play the role of Sasi in the movie. Though the character had only around ten minute screen space, it was powerful. Then the real break came and the film fraternity noted me in Ashiq Abu’s ‘Daddy Cool’,” says Rony who has got several best actor awards while studying.

Rony who continues with his medicine practice is currently the casualty medical officer in KMK Hospital, Paravur. Ask him how he manages both and he says, “It is really hard and difficult to manage both. But I will never quit my practice and will help any person who needs medical assistance anytime.”

In the upcoming film ‘Lisammayude Veedu’, a sequel to the 2006 film ‘Achanurangatha Veedu’, Rony will be playing the character of a CITU worker. Ask him what kind of roles he would like to act, the 29-year-old says, “I believe I would do justice to comedy roles and I would love to do angry young man roles’,” adds Rony.
