Sathvik Ashok M, a third-year engineering student, does a little more than just study. An aspiring computer science engineer from PES Institute of Technology, Bangalore, Sathvik co-owns an event management company called FYI Events along with his classmate, Mrinal Parekh.
However, that wasn’t enough for this entrepreneur. He tutors Class X students. He says, “Teaching is one of my biggest passions. I’ve been teaching for three years. Being a student myself, I understand the needs of other students and teach accordingly.”
Being a quizzer since class IV, FYI primarily focuses on quizzing events in schools. Although FYI is a start-up, it is working with Amaarta Academy and all four branches of Sri Kumaran Children’s Home.
Earning about Rs 20,000 per month, he says, “Tutoring and FYI allow me to be financially independent and pursue things that I am passionate about.” About balancing work and studies he says, “Academics is the priority so I give it sufficient time. In the spare time, which I get a lot, I work. Unlike a others, I don’t while away time. I guess that is the secret!”
