Sony Mathews, a third-year mechanical engineering student of College of Engineering, Adoor, has been training school children in remote areas on personality development for many years. The State Chairman of Uni-Y (the youth wing of YMCA) in Kerala has a unique way of teaching students and does not believe in dumping a set of theories and notes on students. “I decided to be a personality developer as I identified the need to reinforce communication skills among students. My classes too are designed in such a way that I communicate with the students and study them,” says the 20-year-old.

Mathews started providing counselling to students when he was in Class VIII. Initially it used to held on Sundays at the local arts club. The non-profitable business helps to build relationships and gain experience. He takes in a maximum of 30 participants per sessions. Uni-Y’s topic for this year is ‘Youth for Peace and Justice’.
