It was a hectic day for the BCCI marked by meetings of the marketing committee, working committee and a special general meeting and the presence of Jagmohan Dalmiya, Arun Jaitley, Niranjan Shah and Anil Kumble.
The marketing committee discussed the issues of the board terminating the Deccan Chargers at an emergency meeting late on Friday night and the IPL franchise moving court. The possibility of a tender being floated for a new IPL team, and the host city, said sources, was discussed informally.
It has been learnt that Deccan Chargers submitted to the BCCI on Saturday cheques and drafts towards payment of players’ salaries.
The BCCI is, however, not convinced by the position of DC’s assets. According to the BCCI, the decision to terminate DC was because the franchise turned down the PVP Ventures offer although the board had cleared the bidder’s eligibility.
Also, the BCCI did not believe that DC could rectify the situation by 5 pm on Saturday.
BCCI chief N Srinivasan refused to comment on the issue as it is sub-judice. A final decision will be taken after the court hearing.
