Students from J&K meet Chandy

Twenty-three undergraduates from two villages in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday met Chief Minister Oommen Chandy as part of a programme organised by the Rashtriya Rifles.

 Interacting with them at his office on Friday morning, the Chief Minister said that Kerala was distinguished by its communal harmony and high literacy.

 The students, accompanied by two teachers and Rashtriya Rifles officers, are on a visit to various South Indian cities and towns as part of a Rashtriya Rifles initiative to acquaint students from J&K with the cultural diversity of the nation.

 The students were also scheduled to visit the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in the city. Their itinerary includes Kanyakumari, Ooty, Mysore and Bangalore.

 Rashtriya Rifles is a branch of the Indian Army, but under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, formed to tackle insurgency in J&K.
