Renovated theatres set for reopening

Film lovers and enthusiasts will get a visual treat with the renovated Kairali, Sree and Kalabhavan theatres set to be opened for the public.

 Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the renovated Kairali and Sree theatres, which also have added another theatre - Nila, on Friday, the day the International Film Festival of Kerala commences. Cinema Minister K B Ganesh Kumar will inaugurate the renovated Kalabhavan theatre on Thursday. 

 The renovated theatres are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, which would give a visual experience to all the film lovers, Kerala State Fim Development Corporation Chairman Sabu Cheriyan and Managing Director Deepa D Nair said.

 The Kalabhavan and Kairali theatres are provided with 2 K projection facility, 7.1 surround system and silver screen. While Kairali theatre will have a seating capacity of 442, Kalabhavan will have 133 seats in the balcony and 275 lower class seats. All the seats are fabric-finished, cushioned, having recliners with hand rests.

 The Sree theatre and the newly constructed Nila have a Cube Rayluxon projection with 5.1 surround system. While Nila theatre has a seating capacity of 260, Sree can accommodate 314 persons. The proposed ticket rate of Sree and Nila is Rs 80. The balcony ticket rate of Kalabhavan will be Rs 100, while it would be Rs 80 for lower class. The proposed rate of a ticket at Kairali is Rs 90.

 Kalabhavan was not a releasing centre till now. After the renovation, the KSFDC believes that it also would become a releasing centre. Kairali and Sree have been major releasing centres and popular among the audience.
