The Fulbright Alumni from Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi and Imphal have conceptualised a unique programme that will improve the management capacity of NGOs working in the area of environment (eNGOs).
As part of this programme, a workshop is being held at the AMOS Centre in Kottayam, in collaboration with the WWF-India, Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and Environment (ATREE) and the Kerala Social Service Forum (KSSF) from December 19 to 21.
The programme aims to equip mid-level employees of eNGOs with skills related to fund raising, grant writing, project management, team management, volunteer management, networking and PR, marketing management, leadership styles, developing business plans and strategic planning.
The programme is funded by US Government through Fulbright Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund and is hosted by the Bombay Natural History Society.
By this programme, the organisers hope to overcome four important management factors that limit an eNGO from becoming financially sustainable - fiscal management, human resource management, marketing management and networking and public relations (PR).
The year-long programme intends to train 250 employees from 125 eNGOs across the country.
The programme includes an initial three-day management workshop followed by a mentoring phase and would conclude with a two-day follow up workshop.
All participating eNGOs would be enrolled on a network that would provide continued technical support to the participants by the regional Fulbright Alumni.
The workshop format would be mainly audio visual shows, brainstorming, hands on activity for individuals/ groups and home assignments. The programme is open only to employees of eNGOs.
The head of an eNGO can nominate any two mid-level employees, who will be trained into management master trainers for the organisation.
The participants should have experience with a minimum two years of service in the organisation.
The initial series of workshops were held in Mumbai, Imphal, Bangalore and Delhi.
