Seminar on ‘break down disability barriers and celebrate abilities’

The Centre for Disability Studies, Poojappura, will conduct a national seminar on ‘Break Down Disability Barriers and Celebrate Abilities’ at Kanakakunnu Palace, as part of the International Day of People with Disabilities, on December 3 and 4.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy would inaugurate the event on December 3 at 9 a m. Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb would preside over the function. K M Abraham, Principal Secretary, Department of Higher Education, would deliver the keynote address.
The seminar also includes open forum for parents, cultural activities and exhibition of creative crafts of differently abled children.
Merry Barua, director of Autism Action, New Delhi; Farida Raj, director, Centre for Special Education, Secunderabad; Suman Prasad, director of Jan Abhiyan Parishad, would present papers. Rahul Cherian, Indo Juris, Chennai, would be the panelist in the open forum.
More than 30 research scholars would present their research outputs in the area of disability studies.
Director of LBS Centre for Science and Technology Sayed Rasheed and director of Centre for Disability Studies, Poojappura, Beela G K, said that the seminar aims to provide a platform for researchers, academicians, students, parents and disabled students, to come together to create an inclusive society for all .
The Centre for Disability Studies functions with a vision to be the global leader of excellence in disability studies, through a combination of passion and compassion.
