World Junior Softball Championship: Decks cleared for Abijith’s trip

Abijith, hailing from Mavelikara, will soon be wearing the Indian jersey in Argentina, the land of football icon Diego Maradona.
For Abijith, who got selected to the World Junior Softball Championship, the Argentina trip was hanging in balance as he was facing a severe financial crunch.
The State Government, with the interference of Finance Minister K M Mani, decided to give away Rs 50,000 for his trip.
Abijith, who is a first year B Com student of Bishop Moore College, belongs to a BPL family and his father died three years ago. His mother is the sole breadwinner of the family.
As the news started spreading about Abijith getting selected to the World Junior Softball Championship in his hometown in Manacaud, Mavelikara, students, teachers and local people from the region collected Rs 50,000 for the trip.
Mani, who recently visited his hometown to attend a function, came to know about Abijith’s talent and directed to sanction the amount required for Abijith to realise his dream trip to Argentina.
