Two youths were sexually assaulted and physically tortured by local goons, under the influence of liquor, at Manjapra near Kalady last week.
Even though a complaint was registered with the Kalady police, no action has been taken till now.
At a press conference held here, one of the victims, a plus-two student, said that the incident took place last Wednesday evening while he and his friend were returning home. “We went to a shop at Manjapra junction for selling nutmegs. The shop was closed owing to the hartal. On our way home, we saw a few local goons on the roadside in an inebriated condition.
“One of them, named Jinto alias Adu Thoma, held me and enquired about the bag which we were carrying. When I told him that the bag contained nutmegs, he started to assault me, alleging robbery.
“Seeing this, my friend came to the rescue. But another goon, named Aneesh, also started to beat us. We were dragged into the bushes on the roadside and were sexually assaulted.
“Later, we were beaten up for robbery by the others who rushed to the site hearing our cries,” the victim said.
When the police patrolling party arrived, the boys were handed over to them. But the police, after hearing the version of the victims, released them without even registering a complaint.
On the same day, the victims lodged a complaint with the Kalady police with the support of their kin. But till date, no inquiry has been conducted.
When the goons came to know about the complaint, they reached the victims’ homes and threatened to kill them.
The boy also alleged that the police were not taking any action due to political intervention as the goons were workers of a political party.
The officials of the Kalady police station said that they have registered a case and the probe is on.
“An investigation is on and we will take the accused into custody soon,” said the sub-inspector of the Kalady police station.
