Students staging a protest in the principal's office at the Government Law College, Ernakulam, on Monday demanding that the suspended students be taken back.
Classes were disrupted at the Government Law College on Monday also when students went on strike demanding the four suspended students be taken back. It has been two weeks since classes resumed after holidays but not a day has passed without strikes.
According to the Principal A S Saroja, four students were suspended on June 22 as they were found to have consumed alcohol on the campus late in the evening. When the night watchman alerted the vice-principal in charge, he quizzed the students who misbehaved with him. They used abusive language and one of them even sent a message stating that he would consume alcohol the whole night.
The next day the she sought an explanation and gave them 10 days’ time. In their letter the students alleged that it was the night watchman who had consumed alcohol and they were innocent. The inquiry commission found them guilty and the issue was placed before the Staff Council which decided to suspend them, she said.
But the students believe that this is a harsh disciplinary action and want them to be admitted to class and staged a protest, she said. “A student has lost a whole semester,” said devpal,a student. The principal said that though they want to conduct classes the striking students are preventing it. “The boys locked both the gates of the college on Monday hindering discharging of public duty. They also staged a protest in front of my office. We had to call the police to get the gates opened. We also informed the District Collector. I have not permitted the strike. The teachers want to conduct classes and the majority of students are for it but the protestors are intimidating them. We feel sorry for those who want to attend classes and those who are coming from far away. We might have to seek police protection,” said the principal.
Meanwhile, the boys have moved court. It has been nearly two weeks since the college reopened but classes are being disrupted due to strikes and many students want classes to be streamlined.

Why would any sane Principal of an institution permit a STRIKE? Its against the discipline and morals of an educational institution. Further more, the photo posted with this article surely shows the pathetic condition of the Government Law College in Ernakulam which has not changed even a bit in its ignorant attitude towards the society till date from its inception. The Kerala High Court in (Kerala Students Union vs Sojan Francis on 20 February, 2004) has given full authority to a Principal to ban Politics in the College Campus. Government colleges are no exception to this. Politics is necessary for democracy, but is a demon inside a college campus, destroying the hearts of the youth. It is the duty of the college authorities and the police, to drive out students who pose a threat to the functioning of the college and severe action be taken against them for violent and indecent behavior.

4 students boozed inside the campus and one teacher had an altercation with them...Now less than 10 students shouts slogans and all classes are disrupted everyday..the tamasha goes on for almost a month now. Given the adamant attitude of the students and the authorities, we need not expect a solution in the near future. Does any one think of the 99% of the students who come to the college everyday? No, there is no reason why...because no one need answer to any one...This is a "Government' college...no questions..no accountability...!otherwise no sensible authorities would allow this sort of anarchy to prevail at the cost of the majority of the students. One wonders why they insist so much on the 'compulsory attendance' and compel the students to come every day just to waste time and money! This is cruel tamasha..Yes, the boozers will enjoy this, because they rule the roost..And those who just sit back and enjoy the sho have nothing to lose...so long as there is a pay day every month...
