Several attempts made to traffic humans

The police team investigating the human trafficking case in which a CEO of a private educational institute attempted to transport several people to the USA in the guise of an international education conference, has received details that the same institute had made several such bids.

The police received the information after examining the documents present at the office of ShadWell’s International Business School, the other day.

Ammose Mamman, Assistant Commissioner of Police, DCRB, who is investigating the case, said that the team checked the documents of ShadWell’s International Business School.

There is concrete evidence that ShadWell CEO  Tom Baby had made attempts to send people to different countries on the context of international events, Ammose said.

“During the examination of the various documents, we came to know that around 40   people were promised to be taken to foreign countries. The money for this purpose was taken from them. We will locate the people within the next one week.

We will inquire whether any person was sent abroad in a similar manner in the past. As international educational events occur frequently, there are possibilities of people being transported in the past. But we cannot confirm that now,” he  said.

The human trafficking incident came to light after the Kochi police arrested CEO Tom Baby and another employee Suby Kurian last Saturday.

The police had received information from the US consulate in Chennai that fake documents were submitted by four persons for obtaining visas to attend a conference of NAFSA: Association of International Educators to be held in the US this month.

During the investigation it was known that the   persons were by profession plumber, painter and photographer who were introduced as  education experts and journalists by ShadWell’s.

Later, the four men revealed to the police that they were planning to go missing after reaching USA.

On the basis of this, Tom Baby and Suby Kurian were arrested.
